KIKORI MP Soroi Eoe says telecommunication services remains a problem in the district and the people are lagging behind in terms of development.
Eoe, who is Minister for Religion, Youth and Community Development, said three communication towers would be built at strategic locations in the district to provide telecommunication services.
He said service providers such as Digicel, Telikom, bmobile and Click TV (PNG TV) would be invited to use the towers.
The Kikori District Development Authority allocated K560,000 to have the towers built.
“Communication is often so difficult because they do not have a tower and that is another major project that we have approved,” Eoe said.
“But this is overdue.
“Baimuru and Kikori are no longer villages left out there. We are part of a changing world.
“(But) we are still stuck up in our own little communities. We do not know what happens outside and so sometimes, mindsets are still locked in the past.
“We need to address those issues so that they can be part of the changes that we are experiencing in this country.”
