Event raises K111,000

LAE Golf Club had been very supportive in hosting the Prime Minister’s Corporate Golf Challenge for many years, says club president Phil Hommelhoff.
He told The National that the Lae leg of the PM’s Golf challenge yesterday saw 34 teams take part supported by businesses from Mt Hagen, Goroka, Lae and the Lae Golf Club. The National is one of the event’s sponsors.
The second leg of the PM’s Corporate Challenge will be on Oct 30 at the Royal Port Moresby Golf Club.
Yesterday’s event raised K111,000 for the PNG Olympic Committee with Team Nelson Trading from Mt Hagen winning the event.
Team Coca-Cola finished second and Tee Bee Accountants finishing in third place.
The winner received four Lae-Rabaul return airline tickets and Team PNG traveling bags and caps with the runners-up receiving Lae-Kavieng return tickets and Team PNG backpacks. Third place received Port Moresby-Alotau return tickets and Team PNG shirts.
Team Nelson Trading captain Tom Kevin said this was the first time for the his team to participate in the tournament.
“We are excited to win the PM’s golf challenge. We thank our sponsors, co-sponsor and business houses in Lae for supporting us,” he said.
“We are very happy that our sponsors will be proud to see us putting Nelson Trading in front and we’ll see you all at the next PM’s golf challenge,” Kevin said.
Hommelhoff said it had been a sensational day at the course with great weather and all players enjoying their time with all looking forward to next year’s Prime Minister Golf challenge in Lae.
