SEVERAL exhibits were destroyed in a fire at the police forensics office garage at Gordon in Port Moresby yesterday.
Also destroyed was a vehicle at the garage, and a storage room nearby.
Papua New Guinea Fire Service Chief Executive Officer Bill Roo said the fire department was notified of the fire at 3.50pm yesterday.
He said the forensic laboratory was saved but the vehicle was destroyed.
Preliminary findings suggest that an electrical fault could have caused the fire, he said. Officers at the scene said the storage room had been used to keep exhibits from crimes for the court.
The exhibits were from homicide cases, stolen motor vehicles and armed robberies, they said.
