POLICE have charged a Gulf administration officer with molesting a 10-year-old girl, says Kerema Police Station Commander Sr Insp Michael Pakyei.
“The 60-year-old man allegedly molested the girl in her parents’ house on July 7,” Sr Insp Pakyei said.
“While playing cards, the man started molesting her and was caught in the act by his wife. He then fled.
“The girl is the younger sister of his second wife.
“The incident was reported to the police and the man was arrested the next day in his house.
“Police were lucky to arrive on time as angry villagers had surrounded the house and were attempting to burn it down.
“We calmed down the villagers, arrested the suspect and brought him to Kerema police station.
“He is now in police custody and the minor has been admitted to the Kerema General Hospital with bruises on her private parts.
H said were concerned with sexual abuses on minors, especially by close relatives who are bread winners of the family, and customary leaders in the communities.
“Such respectable men in the communities are abusing minors who are also close relatives,” Sr Insp Pakyei said.
“We will ensure that this suspect will face the full force of the law.
“We will not give in to family pressure to withdraw the case based on grounds that the suspect is a bread winner and all those nonsense.”

  • He had access to two wives to satisfy his sexual needs. Why would an old man like him molest an innocent little child. He should be thrown into jail. That nonsense about being a sole breadwinner in the family must not be accepted.
