POLICE in Lae are urging people to use the police toll-free line and Facebook page more to report criminal activities they come across.
Metropolitan commander Superintendent Anthony Wagambie Jr said the police Facebook page was created to supplement their toll free telephone line. Two more lines had to be created to meet the rise in the number of calls. They are open 24/7.
“With modern technology available not only at our doorsteps but in our pockets, at dinner tables and beds, make use of it to report criminal activities,” he said.
“Use it wisely and meaningfully to access educational information and business opportunities rather than to access phonographic materials that is illegal and even will lead your mind into trouble and tarnish your own status in the community.”
Wagambie Jr was responding to the alarming increase in sexual offences in settlements and suburbs.
“Most sexual offences and family sexual violence (cases) go unreported. We must do away with resorting to out-of-court and police compensations,” he said.
“These inhuman acts are mostly conducted by uncles, fathers and stepfathers upon females they regard as sisters, daughters, nieces and grandchildren.”
He warned parents to be careful of who they leave their children with.
Police vehicles in Lae are equipped with global position systems to make communication easy.
