Fair pay for fair work

Letters

THE approach by the Eastern Highlands governor to protect the workers in his province should be commended.
This is one of the most important approaches he has taken and it should be a reminder to all the foreign-owned shops across PNG.
We are being paid between K70-K150, or less than K200, in a fortnight. It is wrong.
Yet we submit to the very people who pay us poorly, saying,
yes boss, and not even taking a lunch break.
These bosses even force our people to work on Saturdays and Sundays and in doing so we miss out on going to church.
As the governor has said, the workers should be fairly treated and paid according to what is lawful.
The minimum wage is K300 a fortnight, by the way.
