Father of two remanded, accused of stealing car

A FATHER of two was remanded in Buimo prison by a committal court in Lae for allegedly stealing a Toyota Landcruiser valued at K120,000 on Jan 29.
Senior Magistrate Pious Tapil told Danny Charles, 34, from Pangia’s Mayai village, Southern Highlands, that police were given three months until July 1 to complete its investigations for prosecution.
The court was told that the vehicle, belonging to GM Flores Hospital in Lae, Morobe, had been recovered.
Magistrate Tapil told Charles to submit a proper application for bail.
On Feb 7, the stolen vehicle was found in East Taraka but the registration number plate had been changed.
On Feb 4, Charles allegedly drove the vehicle to his friend’s yard in East Taraka and told his friend that the vehicle had some mechanical faults which need repairs.
The court was told that when the vehicle was located and when police questioned the yard owner, the police were directed to Charles.
Charles was previously charged with one count of harbouring in relation to the same vehicle.
The defendant appeared for hearing in a district court in Lae on March 25 and was then slapped with the charge of theft.
