Finals race heating up

Sports

The finals race is heating up in the Intrust Super Cup competition with a big congestion of teams vying for a top-six finish and a chance to play September footy.
Following the conclusion of Round 20 at the weekend; there are only two points that separate the fifth-placed Easts Tigers and Tweed Heads Seagulls in 11th on the Intrust Super Cup ladder.
The two sides will meet this weekend at Suzuki Stadium, Langlands Park in what shapes as a crucial clash for both sides.
Elsewhere, there are three other vitally important games this weekend which hold major top six ramifications, with the Souths Magpies (9th) hosting the defending premiers PNG Hunters (7th), the Ipswich Jets (10th) hosting the Sunshine Coast Falcons (6th), and the Burleigh Bears (3rd) hosting the Wynnum Manly Seagulls (12th).
Wynnum Manly are a game behind the Tweed Heads Seagulls and if results go their way, they are still a chance of cracking the top six with every game a must win.
A loss for any of these teams who are sitting just outside the top six would deliver a massive blow to their finals hopes.
With the race to the finals being so tight, every game could make or break each team’s season as they all jockey for positions into the top six.
The six highest ranked teams shall compete in a finals series for the Intrust Super Cup.
Week one will see team three take on team six and team fourth battle it out with team five in the elimination finals, while first and second have the week off.
Week two will see first and second lock horns in the major semifinal — with the winner to standby for the grand final — while the winners of the elimination finals take each other on in the minor semifinal.
In the third week, the losers of the major semifinal face the winners of the minor semifinal for a spot in the grand final at Suncorp Stadium the week after. – QRL
