The Government has awarded a K19 million contract to a company for the second time to distribute school materials to schools throughout the Mamose region, Education Secretary Dr Uke Kombra, pictured, says.
He said on Thursday during the signing ceremony at Government House in Port Moresby that MH Supplies Ltd had done very well last year and had been re-awarded the contract.
“Earlier on this year, the governor-general had signed contracts for all suppliers for New Guinea Islands, Highlands and Southern regions except for Mamose,” Kombra said.
“That is because it had to be re-tendered in May – that’s why it is behind the other three regions.
“The total contract signed for all the suppliers for the four regions has gone up to K90 milion: K70 million is for the contractors to supply the materials while K20 million is for the contractors who will do the distribution.
“So K90mil is used to procure materials for all schools throughout the country which is about 13,000 schools.
“These schools are receiving these materials and irrespective of the location, the supplies will go to every school. The materials are top-of-the-market and are of the same quality that you can find in any leading stationary shop in Port Moresby. The same quality and quantity of materials that are supplied in schools in Port Moresby are the same that are supplied to remote schools like in Teleformin, West Sepik. We have standardised the quality and quantity, so every school is getting equal share.”
Kombra said that K600mil was budgeted for tuition Fee free for this year and out of that K90mil is for the supplying and distribution of materials in each of the four regions.
