A FOREIGNER is facing charges relating to the trading of fishery products without a licence in East New Britain (ENB), according to police.
ENB police commander Chief Insp Joseph Tabali said James Ye Weixiong, 37, of Fuji province in China was arrested on Aug 21 in Kerevat for allegedly breaching the National Fisheries Management Act 1998.
James, the manager of the Hongland Enterprise in Kerevat, was allegedly caught buying beche-de-mer (sea cucumber) and sharks fins from local fishermen.
Tabali said the trading of beche-de-mer and sharks fins, both regulated fishery products, required a licence from the National Fisheries Authority.
The police crime unit officers and fisheries officers conducted a search of the company premises after a tip-off.
They allegedly found beche-de-mer and sharks fins and charged James and confiscated his passport. He was released on a K12,000 police bail.

  • Please deport these kind of people who undermine our laws. If we don’t deport and black list them from entering PNG, others who are watching are doing the same thing. We need touch laws. The immigration people are weak in allowing these kind people into the country.
