THE people of Lasul Baining in Gazelle district, East New Britain, are in need of electricity and better roads.

The people’s needs were expressed to East New Britain Governor Ereman ToBaining and Gazelle MP Malakai Tabar through a businessman when they visited the area recenlty.

Peter Woolcot, owner of Klin Wara Plantation, told the MPs that people had ventured into tourism and agricultural activities and needed roads and electricity supply.

“The area is vital to the economy of the province,” Woolcot said.

Tabar said he had taken note of the needs and would ensure they would be  addressed in the next five years.

“The road is very important. The province will not achieve its plans and strategies if we do not improve our road links,” he said.

Tabar said the district was prioritising tourism in the Baining area and would look at improving roads from Utmei Secondary School to the Lassul Baining area.

“But it is critical that people in the area maintain law and order for this industry to grow,” Tabar said.

“These two go together. We cannot expect tourism to grow in the country when our law and order appears to be a crucial issue.”

ToBaining assured the people that he would assist the Gazelle MP on improving roads.

“There are plans for roads and electricity in the area and I will support the Gazelle MP to see that these projects are carried out,” ToBaining said.
