Gender equality and abuse a talking point

THE third Chat Room session broadcast live on Tribe FM had students of Limana Vocational Centre discussing gender equality and abuse.
Five grade 10 students shared their views on how the issue could best be addressed.
Peter Dakai said the school embraced gender equality and the same could be adopted into politics.
“My school Limana Vocational Centre used to be a school for girls only, but this has now changed.
“If you look at the country’s politics today, you will see that it is mostly male-dominated. There has to be equal participation for both genders,” Peter said.
Another student, Anita Bruce, said physical abuse was common in communities and urged victims to report the matter. “Physical abuse is experienced everywhere in PNG, from parents bashing their own children, boyfriends bashing their girlfriends and husbands bashing their wives. This is seen everywhere,” she said.
“The victims need to be brave and report the matter to police.”
The students reminded people to be aware of those around them and to report any form of abuse to the authorities.
