MOST schools around the country hosted different events to mark the end of the 2015 Book Week.

In Port Moresby, St Joseph’s International Catholic College held a parade where students dressed up in their favourite book characters to close off the reading week.

The students were reminded by guest speaker Karen Washington on the importance of giving their very best in whatever they did in school.

Washington, a native of Houston, Texas, in US, who has over 30 years of experience in staff development and media relations, is an active member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club.

“Every decision you make about your job and about your career and about your future is in your hand,” she said.

“You make a decision every day when you decide whether to turn in those homework assignments that your teacher gave you.”

Washington told the students that achieving a result of “pretty good” is not good enough. “When you’re talking about competing against the world market you’ve got to give your absolute best,” Washington said.

“Reading is important. Every subject in school is important so your teachers are your good friend and the reason is your teachers care about your future.”
