A TOTAL of K10 million has been allocated for the “1 crop per district” initiative for agriculture and livestock development in Central, Governor Robert Agarobe says.
The districts identified for the initiative are Agevairu (Kairuku/Goilala), Launakalana (Rigo) and Moreguina (Abau/Rigo).
“The province will put capital into these primary district stations to upgrade them for the farmers” he said.
Speaking at the signing of an agreement between Livestock Development Corporation (LDC) and Central, Agarobe said LCD would act as a vehicle to carry out the plans for livestock in Launakalana station in Rigo.
Acting Central administrator Francis Koaba said much had not been done in the stations as they had been facing difficulties.
“There is no impact on work in each station but the agreement with LDC will push the potential of the “1 crop per district” initiative” Agarobe said.
He said most Central people live in rural areas and most times travelling to the city was a problem.
“At the provincial level the Aniani Corporation was created as a business arm to drive our initiatives for these crops” he said.
