Telefomin people to get reliable teleco services

AROUND 50,000 people in Telefomin, West Sepik, can expect reliable telecommunication services following the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Telikom Holdings Ltd.
It was signed by company acting chief executive officer Amos Tepi and the district development authority official Anslem Mani in Port Moresby yesterday.
According to Telikom, it will cost about K4 million to put up the mobile towers, with the project likely to get underway in May or June, as soon as funds are received.
Tepi said the tower would allow people to enjoy improved public service, including health and education.
“SMEs (small-to-medium enterprises) can also use the 4G data to sell online whatever they need to sell. Sitting in the comfort of their homes in the village, they can upload, download and do their business. They don’t need to fly to Vanimo, Wewak or even Port Moresby.”
Mani said given the remote location of Telefomin, communication was vital to the people.
“Telefomin is a remote district. The only access is by air. The only means of communicating is to have towers in place in the local level governments of Telefomin, Namea, Yapsie and Oksapmin.
“We have to get these towers in place so we can communicate with our people.
“The district has counter funded K4 million with Telikom to fund these towers. We have budgeted K4 million to build these towers.”
He also appealed to Telikom to upgrade the coverage to 4G so the people can access internet and banking services.
