MOROBE Governor Ginson Saonu on Saturday gave three dinghies to the Evangelical Lutheran church of Papua New Guinea (ECLPNG).
They went to Kotec, Zaka and Bunanue parish in Malalo circuit.
Saonu presented the three banana boats equipped with 75 horse power engines and eight life jackets each.
He told the recipients that the collaboration between the Government and church should be maintained to serve people.
The presentation took place at Voco Point beach front.
“There is not enough funding to support every church in the district,” Saonu said.
“The little we do is to show appreciation for this relationship between the Government and the church working together to serve the people and I have chosen three areas that is a parish, a circuit and a district.”
The governor urged the church to work with the provincial government to serve the people in areas that it could not bring services to.
“In the absence of government services, the church’s presence can bring comfort and as a government, we acknowledge what the church is doing,” he said.
“As a token of appreciation, these boats have been donated to boost the church’s work in these three areas.”
Saonu said the boats could be used for the work of the church and also to earn revenue.
Evangelical Lutheran church of PNG Kotec district president Jonati Metu was grateful for the gesture and thanked the governor for the donation.
