Gulf planning for new secondary school

Education

GULF has kicked off a proposal for another secondary high school recently in Malalaua.
Gulf administration, East Kerema local level government (EKLLG) and landowners from Lese villages gathered early this month to mark the site and clear a portion of land for the proposed school.
The portion, Ariko, is along the Trans-Island Highway, owned by the Lavaipia Clan of Lese Oalai village.
According to the provincial education council decision of 2018, the school will become the fifth high school in the province.
Provincial education adviser Gabriel Opa told the gathering: “Schools require lots of land to build facilities such as classrooms, teacher’s houses, dormitories, and sporting facilities.
“We are, therefore, looking at the land size as Malalaua High School.”
He said expansion of the school depends and would require further extension to the lands should need arise in the future.
Lavaipia spokesman Maurise Oakiva praised the Gulf government for upholding their submission for the school to be built on their land.
