Gurias have good future, says coach

RABAUL Gurias coach Steven Nightingale believes his young side have a good future ahead and that there are some positive outcomes from their season in the Digicel Cup.
A regular in the Digicel Cup playoffs, the Gurias lost 13-4 to Hela Wigmen in the elimination finals on Sunday.
The 2015 premiership winning coach told The National that his side had a good start to their campaign but highlighted that the Gurias experienced a few hiccups towards the back end of the season.
“We started well early in the season, however, there were a bit of disruptions mid-season with Terry Wapi joining the Hunters,” Nightingale said. “We also released three of our players to attend the Pacific Games last month. They missed two games and because of that, we lost a bit of momentum. But Wapi’s inclusion into the Hunters and the Kumuls is a big positive, watching him develop last year up to this stage.
“We also have a lot of young boys who are 19, 20 and 21 years old who are coming in without experience but they are getting the hang of it. They’ll be right for next season and the years after that.”
Nightingale admitted that poor decision-making from their spine and inexperience were their weaknesses this season but he was confident his side would turn things around next year.
