Hagen clan pays compensation over man’s death

A CLAN in Mt Hagen has paid K203,000, 177 pigs, 20 cows, six pythons and a cuscus as compensation for the death of a man from another clan.
The Moge-Angimb clan last Sunday paid the compensation to the Jika-Malakamp clan at the Pope Paul Oval in Mt Hagen.
They admitted that they were responsible for the death of Isaac Pelep last month.
Hagen MP William Duma, former Western Highlands Governor Tom Olga, Deputy Governor Wai Rapa and provincial police commander Chief Supt Martin Lakari attended the compensation ceremony.
The death resulted from a clash between youths from the two clans which also saw destruction to properties and homes.
Olga commended the clans and urged them to maintain the peace.
He said people could concentrate on education, business and work when there was peace.
Duma said the two clans lived as neighbours and rarely had fights.
He said maintaining law and order must be a priority.
“I want this to be followed by everyone and maintain peace at all times so our children and mothers live peacefully with any fear in their lives,” Duma said.
