Hard work was key to upset of champs: Suri

GALAXY coach Batram Suri said hard work was the key in his side’s 4-1 upset of defending champions Hienghene Sport on Sunday.
Suri said he was pleased with his side’s performance, particularly the involvement of the club’s imports.
“Playmaker Roberson (Dos Santos Ribeiro) and (Solomon Islander) Gagame Feni played well,” he said.
“We have four imports. They are (Australian-based Englishman) Terrence Carter, Gagame and Brazilians Diego Maximo (centre-back) and Roberson.
“They all joined the club during the Port Villa League last year.
“I’m so proud. My boys executed everything we planned and the strategies we worked on.
“They (Hienghene) are very good players. They are the champions and we’re tournament rookies but we worked hard to win the match.
“We expected a tough game against them but as I said on our arrival that we are here to challenge anybody.
“I already told my players about the heat in PNG when we were in Vanuatu.
“The heat will be more than what you experience in the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.
“I’m happy with the team and although we didn’t play well in patches, we managed to come away with the win.”
Galaxy meet New Zealand opponents Eastern Suburbs tomorrow in the second round of group-A matches in the Oceania Football Confederation Champions League.

  • Way to go Batram. Keep your boys’ feet firmly on the ground but aim high. Arrogance and underestimation of others’ capabilities will only work against you in the final analysis. Maybe some of our PNG coaches should take a leaf out of your book. Then maybe they can get to experience more success than they could ever think of attaining.
