EDUCATION Minister Jimmy Uguro is urging school administrations to have in place specific regulations and policies to prevent fighting amongst students.
He said fighting among students happened as a result of bullying, alcohol consumption and cult practices.
“Principals and boards of management must enforce laws and school regulations,” he said.
“There should not be any room for petty crimes in schools and institutions which are designed to develop the future generation on character and behaviour academic, physical and psychological development of the child.”
Uguro said parents and guardians were responsible for disciplining their children before sending them to school.
He said students were future leaders of the country and should practice habits that would develop themselves, their communities and improve society.
Any issues outside of school premises, he said, like the incident which happened between two secondary schools in the National Capital District on Wednesday, had to be referred to police.
NCD Metropolitan Superintendent Gideon Ikumu told The National he had not been briefed on the matter.
Attempts to speak with the principals of the two respective schools, Tokarara Secondary and Gerehu Secondary were unsuccessful.
