THE Gumine health centre, in Chimbu, has recorded 17 new Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases and three deaths over the past two weeks, officer-in-charge George Umba says.
Umba said community transmissions were happening in Gumine and they were expecting more patients.
The district Covid-19 mobile team vaccinated 200 people in Dirima with the Johnson and Johnson vaccine last week.
Team leader Sr Serah Kaile said the team was waiting for more people to come in for vaccination.
Meanwhile, Dirima Catholic parish priest Fr Peter Kim distributed masks to parishioners on Sunday.
Fr Peter received about 10,000 authentically designed and made masks from his friends in South Korea where he comes from.
He said with support from his parish council, fabric was bought and, with the help of volunteers, close to 1,000 masks were sewn and distributed to communities.
Fr Peter said the new normal strategies were applied in his church on Sundays and he was restricting programmes and activities.
