SOME students from the earthquake-affected areas are being turned away from tertiary institutions because their provincial governments are yet to pay their school fees.
It has prompted Hela Governor Philip Undialu to again appeal to the institutions to enrol students while the provinces work on their fees.
Undialu said Hela was in the process of sorting out the school fees when the earthquake hit on Feb 26.
“I appeal to them to understand the situation and allow our students to enrol,” he said.
“Cheques will take time as the provincial government building was damaged by the earthquake.
“But we will still pay our dues once we have sorted everything out .
“We just need a little more time and understanding.”
Undialu said parents were also struggling right now as some had lost everything.
“Parents are also trying their best to meet the fees and I appeal to the schools to be understanding of our situation and allow our children to enrol for studies.
“We will pay the fees at a later date once we have sorted ourselves out.”
