Hospital gets donation for paediatric ward

FOUR doctors from a children’s hospital in Colorado, US, visited Nonga Hospital’s paediatric ward in Rabaul, East New Britain, last Friday.
The Children’s Hospital Colorado is working in partnership with Nonga and has visited the hospital over three times.
The visit was facilitated and coordinated by the PNG Tribal Foundation.
Foundation president Gary Bustin said they engaged and brought doctors and specialists from hospitals around the world to come to Papua New Guinea.
The foundation also has offices in the US, Australia and PNG.
Bustin said the foundation aimed to bring resources to PNG so local doctors and medical professionals could gain from the exchanges.
Bustin said the foundation liaised with their overseas offices to bring in specialists in the fields of health and education.
“The PNG Tribal Foundation works in the health and education sectors and we have been operating in PNG for 10 years,” he said.
“We are very proud to bring one of the best children’s hospitals in Colorado to be partner with Nonga Hospital.”
He also said the Children’s Hospital Colorado was one of the 10 top children hospitals in the US with 2,000 doctors and 5,000 staff.
The doctors, who visited Nonga’s paediatric and special nursery unit, brought materials including personal protective attire such as gloves, isolation gowns, head covers, shoe covers and eye shields, hand gel and pads.
The other items brought were intravenous needles (paediatric sizes) oxygen, bone marrow biopsy needles, paediatric medical text books and nasogastric feeding tubes in paediatric sizes.
ENB health authority board acting chief executive officer Dr Ako Yap thanked the PNG Tribal Foundation for making it possible for doctors and medical teams from overseas to visit PNG’s health facilities.
