HIGH Performance Sport PNG staff member Susanne Sere, pictured, will proudly represent Papua New Guinea at this year’s Pacific Women’s Sports Leadership Programme in Samoa this month.
Sere is one of four successful applicants from PNG selected to attend the one-week course, and will have the opportunity to meet, network and share ideas with numerous other female sports leaders from the Pacific region.
“I am excited with this opportunity and really looking forward to it — to learn as much as I can from the other participants — their experience and knowledge and to further enhance my skills and keep gaining knowledge at a broader level,” Sere said.
Sere pointed out that a bonus for her was that PNG was the only country in the Pacific, apart from Australia and New Zealand, with a high performance sport programme and this would be an opportunity to share her knowledge and experience with her fellow participants.
“Being part of this programme is also timely with preparations for the 2019 Pacific Games,” she added.
Formerly employed with the Steamships Group of Companies, Sere’s involvement in the sports industry began in 2014 when she joined High Performance Sport (HPS) PNG while it was still under the PNG Olympic Committee.
Sere says being part of the general management team during the 2015 Pacific Games provided great exposure for her as an administrator with HPS, and the experience helped her development in the sports industry to where she is with HPS.
“I enjoy what I do and try to give the best of my ability.”
The Pacific Women’s Sports Leadership Programme is a professional development programme established in 2016 to help develop Pacific island women in their various roles in sport leadership in the Region.
