NEW Morobe governor Kelly Naru has denied that any law was broken in his elections victory.
He was responding to comments by the man he ousted, Luther Wenge, who planned to challenge the conduct of the elections in court.
Naru, a lawyer himself, said: “I did not break any laws to get elected. My election was done fairly and squarely according to the preferential wishes of the people of nine districts of Morobe province.”
Naru said he was ready to defend himself and the preferential wishes of the Morobe people, if Wenge took that legal option.
Naru said Wenge had every right to take the matter to court but advised him to consider the likely repercussions and implications of doing that.
“In fact, his outburst is very shallow, unbecoming, irresponsible and un-Morobean.
“For the record, I want every Morobean to know that my election victory was achieved fairly and squarely according to the preferred wishes of the voters of the nine districts of Morobe province,” Naru said.
He urged Wenge to co-operate with the provincial administration for a smooth handover of office.
