CONSUMERS in Port Moresby will now buy a bottle of fresh milk for K2 and K5, according to Innovative Agro Industry PNG Ltd.
The company, which operates the Ilimo Dairy outside Port Moresby, announced this yesterday, saying consumers would save on the 250ml and one-litre fresh milk bottles.
Group sales manager Rene Manangen said: “We understand that there is crazy demand out there for the product, especially the new 250ml which often sells out at retail outlets, and we want to ensure that more and more Papua New Guineans are able to taste the nutritional goodness of locally produced fresh milk.”
The discount now brings the price of one-litre of fresh milk down to K5 and 250ml of fresh milk down to K2.
Chairman Ilan Weiss said: “We believe everyone deserves to be able to make a choice about what type of milk they drink.
“Until now, almost all liquid milk consumed in PNG had been UHT milk, based on availability and price.
“While UHT products have hovered between K4.50 and K5.50 per litre, fresh milk has retailed for K12 and above per litre.
“When we came on the scene, we were selling Ilimo Fresh milk at K6.50 per litre.
“Now with this discount, we are on par with imported UHT milk – locally produced Ilimo Fresh Milk is now K5 per litre.”
The discounts are designed to make fresh milk more accessible to consumers and to encourage consumers to continue their support for the local dairy industry.
Weiss said: “We employ 200 Papua New Guineans at our ‘grass to glass’ facility located in Central.
“Our out-grower programme is garnering more and more interest from Central farmers.”
