ILIMO Dairy Farm will add yoghurt to its growing number of PNG made dairy products.
According to a statement from parent company Innovative Agro Industry, Ilimo Dairy will begin with producing individual serves of both flavoured and natural yoghurt.
“Ensuring that more and more Papua New Guineans can have access to the health benefits of calcium rich dairy products is an important consideration for Ilimo Dairy,” business development manager Gallit Tamir said.
“Yoghurt is a probiotic food that has been an important source of protein for centuries in other parts of the world. We are proud to be the very first commercial dairy in PNG producing yoghurt that is made by locals for locals.
“Yoghurt is currently expensive and difficult for local consumers to afford because everything sold at supermarkets is imported. The nutritional benefits of yoghurt are now more accessible to ordinary Papua New Guineans.”
Ilimo Dairy Yoghurt will be in outlets in coming weeks, joining other Ilimo Dairy Products; Fresh Milk, Flavoured Milk, Milk Stik and Ilimo Dairy Moo Snax.
Although the dairy is producing various flavours of delicious ice cream, at this time Ilimo Dairy ice cream is only available to commercial caterers, hotels and restaurants.
Yogurt is a dairy product that is created by bacterial fermentation of milk using “yogurt cultures”.
The bacteria causes fermentation of lactose and produces lactic acid.
As one of the oldest and most popular fermented foods, yogurt is known around the world for its great taste and nutritional probiotic benefits.
