India looking forward to leaders’ summit in PNG

INDIA is looking forward to the India-Pacific Islands Leaders’ Summit to be held this year in Port Moresby.
President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind revealed this when receiving the credential of High Commissioner Paulias Korni at the Presidential Palace in New Delhi on Tuesday.
“We have received your offer to host the third forum of the India-Pacific Islands Cooperation summit in Port Moresby. We are thankful for the special gesture and we are giving due consideration to hosting the summit in your capital,” Kovind said.
He said India’s strategic engagement with the Pacific Island countries, including Papua New Guinea, had acquired a new salience under its “Act East Policy”.
“We are happy to set up the Centre of Excellence in Information Technology at the University of Papua New Guinea,” he said.
“We are also keen that the financial assistance extended for road projects in your country are utilised as per your needs.”
He said PNG and India shared a common view on most international and regional issues and had an excellent record of cooperation in the United Nations and other international fora.
