Institutes provide Madang perfect outlet for market produce

Madang district is fortunate to host several national tertiary institutions which provide employment and spin-off businesses to local people and businesshouses.
The institutions include Divine Word University, Madang Technical College, PNG Maritime College, Madang Teachers College, Lutheran School of Nursing, St Fidelis Seminary and a host of smaller private schools, including primary and secondary.
Village farmers were among those who benefit from those institutions through the sale of garden produce.
The institutions not only buy vegetables from locals in Madang but from as far as the Highlands.
On Tuesday morning, farmers from Western Highlands supplied Divine Word University with a truckload of garden produce brought down from Mt Hagen.
The produce included pineapples, cabbages, potatoes and tomatoes.
The farmers also sold produce to retailers at Madang market.
