Youth and church groups hear call to help keep Lae clean

LAE MP John Rosso’s call to youths, churches and community groups to take ownership of city cleaning and beautification is bearing fruit.
Several groups have been contracted by Lae City Council to clean drains and cut grass along main roads. Homeless people who live on streets were also cleaning up their neighbourhood. One such group is the Lae Rugby League Youth.
The group has 10 men and 10 women. They raised K200 and registered themselves with Investment Promotion Authority.
Chairman Kelly Pawini said his group would clean the outer area of the rugby league ground between Ariel Avenue and Markham Road.
District administrator Robin Calistus and Rosso could not be reached for comment.
The National visited groups and individuals doing similar cleaning and beautification activities beside Air Niugini and Manolos Aviation offices (Old Airport), footpath and Top Town to Down Town, Half Street, DCA seafront, Lunaman foothill tunnel and Voco Point.
