A GROUP of police officers from West Sepik, East Sepik, Madang and Morobe have completed a six-week basic investigation course in Lae.

The refresher course was run by Insp Joe Koim.

Senior Constable Francis Waiu from East Sepik said they were educated on investigation skills and knowledge.

He said most of them had been doing investigation duties out in the field without any proper training.

“We had been really struggling doing investigations, lacking in techniques, especially in preservation and collecting of evidences and most importantly the interpretation of criminal offences,” Waiu said.

“It has been our privilege to have attended the training and gaining much from the course. I urge my fellow course mates to make use of the investigation skills and knowledge we have attained through the six weeks of training which is on our primary role and investigators.”

Waiu said in today’s technology, crime trends seemed sophisticated and to be able to detect and investigate such sophisticated crimes, investigators must be one or two steps ahead of the perpetrators.

He said the investigators must be more advanced in technology and resources in every area.

“Despite the limited resources, we will play our role of investigation as per our duty to our country to allow justice to prevail,” he said.
