GULF Isou coach Roger Laka says his men are eyeing strong start against Mendi Muruks when they meet in round six of the Digicel Cup at the Santos National Football Stadium in Port Moresby on Sunday (3.30pm kick-off).
He told The National yesterday that he would retain the same side that lost to Port Moresby Vipers last weekend.
Laka said the Muruks had a lot of quality players, so his side must be at their best to contain the Roderick Puname-coached side.
“The Muruks have a quality side and they will come out strongly after their win over Waghi Tumbe last week,” the SP Hunters legend said.
“But we will be focusing on executing our own game plan and trusting the processes that we have.
“If we apply what we have been practising at training then I am confident that we can get the job done.
“But if we don’t stick to our game plan then it will be tough against a side like the Muruks.”
Laka warned his men to start well and avoid repeating the same mistake which cost them an opportunity at beating the Vipers last weekend.
“Our main goal is to start strongly,” he said.
“We lost against the Vipers right from the start and that was what he had talked all week. We don’t want to repeat that against the Muruks, so we need a big start.”
But Laka said he was happy with the current group of players and their performances so far.
“At this stage, there are a few injury concerns, but I will retain the core of the team that have been playing since round one,” he said.
“I might make a few changes if necessary, but I believe in consistency, so hopefully every player is ready to take the field.”
