ME Too Koiari (MTK) Jets received a new set of apparel worth K3,800 ahead of this weekend’s Lower Koiari Rugby League grand final against Border Eagles at the Laloki Secondary School oval.
Local companies MTK Bus Services, Papuan Best Limited and Rex and Willie Auto Service came to the aid of the team with the presentation on Tuesday.
“I hope the new uniforms will boost our morale heading into the grand final as we look to come out victorious at the end of the match,” team manager Michael Foxie said.
“The team were purposely formed in 2017 to involve youths who were doing nothing. These youths would resort to drugs, home-brew and other unlawful activities.
“But with the team’s formation, it gives our youths a reason to quit these activities and divert their attention to sports.
“In turn, it improves our communities and helps our youths to become better citizens.”
Koiari has produced many talented players in the likes of the late Kato Ottio, Obert Batia, Edene Gabbie, Adam Korave and the Abavu siblings — Josiah, Anthony and Bland.
“We have the potential so I want all my players to focus on improving their skills to emulate them,” Foxie said. “After the grand final, I hope some of my players get selected to play for the Southern Zone side or at the Kokoda Nines.
“We’ve been hard at training all week and we’re looking forward to giving our best in the grand final. We’re calling on our supporters to head to the oval and get behind us.”
