TWO roads in a suburb in Port Moresby will be upgraded and sealed at a cost of almost K10 million through the National Capital District’s provincial service improvement programme, Governor Powes Parkop says.
Parkop said this at the ground-breaking ceremony for road work in Morata yesterday.
He said the people deserved the project with the suburb’s growing population.
“Morata has contributed to the city in a number of ways and about 80 per cent of bus operators reside and operate from there,” he said,
“K4.3 million will be spent on Matabudi St and K4.9 million on Talapia St as we wish for the road to look like those roads in the city.”
Parkop said two contractors were awarded to carry out the project.
He said the contractors were Garrett Construction Ltd and Mobile Works Ltd.
“Government infrastructure development are aimed at helping our local contractors,” Parkop said.
“I believe they will deliver the service that people need.
“We have given Mobile Works a few of our projects so from what we see they have done a great job.”
Meanwhile, Morata community leader Charles Kama said apart from road upgrading, they still faced other difficulties.
While thanking Parkop, he appealed to him to improve water and electricity services in the suburb.
“Our only appeal is to improve water supply and electricity in our community,” he said.
Parkop assured residents that he would do his best to address the issue.
Parkop said he would do so by bringing up the issue with Eda Ranu, the water supplier in Port Moresby, and PNG Power Ltd on the matter.
He urged Morata residents to change and do the right thing for services to reach to them.
