MANY farmers who supply cocoa in the rural areas are women, according to Elliven managing director Ron Neville.
Neville made the remarks when donating K3,000 to Manalos Aviation’s Mama Medivac programme last week in Madang.
“All of the farmers who supply us cocoa come from rural areas and many of them are women,” he said.
“When I move around visiting our farmers and suppliers in remote areas, I often hear stories about the challenges mothers face with childbirth.”
Neville said as a company, they were committed to doing what they could for the people, especially mothers who were responsible for bearing and raising the next generation.
He said they were thrilled to support Manolos Aviation and their Mama Medivac programme which brought lifesaving services to remote communities.
Despite Manalos Aviation chief executive Jurgen Ruh not being present to receive the donation, when contacted by The National, he said: “We are establishing a process now whereas they (Elliven) will support us in delivering medicines to outstations at a time when we have a medevac from the outstation.”
