A K500,000 water supply project for Kolam village is one of several initiatives by Finschhafen MP Rainbo Paita to improve the quality of life for his people.
Paita, who is Finance Minister, attended the launch of work on the project last Sunday.
He was accompanied by representatives from the adventist development relief agency (ADRA) – the project’s coordinator. Paita and the Finschhafen development authority (DDA) committed K300,000 to the project with an initial amount of K100,000 provided to ADRA for a feasibility study for the project to supply water to 11 communities, of which, Kolam is a part of.
“When we presented the feasibility study to the national planning and monitoring department, K500,000 was released for the project,” he said.
Paita thanked the department for recommending ADRA to partner with the DDA for the water project.
He told the Kolam community that the cheque for the water project had already being released to ADRA and according to the project coordinator, all materials and equipment would arrive at the site.
He thanked ADRA for their professionalism and said the DDA would work with them on future projects.
Paita acknowledged the DDA’s other partners in the Works Department and the PNG Defence Force for their work in the district.
Kolam villager Gomax Nob told The National that access to clean drinking water was an ongoing issue for the womenfolk and they were happy that the project would bring a much-needed service to them.
