JIWAKA Transitional Authority has presented a 25kv genset and K90, 000 cheque yesterday to Minj vocational school.
This was the first time, the school received such assistance from the provincial government after it was
re-opened in 2008.
The assistance was a big boost to the school in its effort to carry out self reliant projects like building double classrooms, buying learning materials, sawmill, tools, a dump truck, and many others for the students to do their practical work.
Board chairman of the school, Robert Togamb told director of Jiwaka Transitional Authority (JTA) Nicholas Kuman and his officers that the school was run down by previous management and closed for four years.
Togamb said there was no money in the school account when current manager Steven Teng came in.
He said with the assistance from the Berifka Association, they  manage to revive the school  while taking onboard their first intake in 2008.
He said that through the hard work of the management and community they initiated many self help projects and that brought the school to level six last year.
He thanked JTA for seeing the hardship they have gone through to come to their assistance.
Teng said when he came in, the school had only K5 left it its operational account.
However, he said due to mismanagement, the school was closed for four years and opened in 2008.
He thanked JTA for their timely assistance to rebuild the school.
Kuman told told them JTA was happy to assist them.
