Public Service Minister Elias Kapavore said Nungu was currently the deputy provincial administrator for corporate services and had been working in the provincial administration for more than 30 years.
Manus Governor Charlie Benjamin welcomed the appointment although he was yet see the gazetted decision of the National Executive Council.
“I have no problems with Nungu as he has been in the province for the past 30 years with the administration,” Benjamin said.
“I think he is qualified for that job.
“I believe he will do a good job.”
Benjamin said the Senior Ministerial Appointment Committee had submitted five names to the provincial executive council which he chaired.
“We selected three names. Nungu was one of the three and submitted them back (to a Cabinet committee).
Meanwhile, Kapavore told Parliament on Friday that the current term of Jiwaka’s provincial administrator would expire in November.
“Governor Dr William Tongamp has been made aware of this and as part of the requirement, they must do a performance appraisal for the administrator and if there is a need to reappoint him , he can advise us accordingly,” Kapavore said.
