PAPUA New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA) president John Kapi Natto has warned clubs to enforce discipline among their players.
“The discipline of clubs must start with you,” he said on Sunday.
“It is important that clubs, managers and coaches ensure that they look after their players and instil discipline.”
He shared these comments during the closing of the Southern Club Championships at the Pacific Institute of leadership and Governance Oval in Port Moresby on Sunday.
Kapi Natto highlighted a few heated moments which had contributed to the PNG men’s football team missing out on a place in the bronze-medal playoff at the Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa.
He said discipline had played a crucial role for the PNG men’s side who at one point were forced to play with just nine players.
However, Kapi Natto was pleased with the conduct of participating associations during the championships.
He warned teams that PNGFA would not tolerate ill-discipline.
“There is no room for troubled players,” Kapi Natto said
“When you send them to the national team, they are expected to be disciplined players who don’t cause embarrassment and disappointment.
“As long as I am the PNGFA president, there will be a zero tolerance on ill-discipline.”
He said once discipline was enforced at the club level, it would raise the standard of the sport.
