PAPUA New Guinea lightweight champion Raka Kauko Jr says he had identified his weaknesses in Sunday’s World Boxing Association Asia super featherweight title loss to Filipino Roldan Aldea.
Aldea won by unanimous decision (all judges scored it 97-92) after 10 rounds at the Sir John Guise Stadium Indoor Complex in Port Moresby.
Kauko said after the fight that he would be better prepared for the rematch which is expected to be held in three months’ time.
“My team, the coaching staff have taken note of how I fought tonight (Sunday),” the West New Briton said.
“There are a couple of things (weaknesses) that I need to work on.
“If I am given another opportunity through a rematch then I will be better prepared and know what to expect.
“This was my first bout against him.
“I think I’ve taken note of his strengths and how he won.”
PNG Boxing Council president Ben Micah said Kauko would have an opportunity to claim the title belt in the rematch.
Meanwhile, he said local boxers had the potential to succeed at the international level.
