ENGA kickboxer Nickson Samson Wailo will travel to North Africa to compete in a World Kickboxing Federation (WKF) K1 light welterweight fight next month.
The 27-year-old, from Tsak, will compete in the 64.5kg bout in Douala, Cameroon.
Wailo said this would be his first time to travel overseas.
However, he said he would need financial assistance to pay for his travel, accommodation and meals.
Wailo said he would use his 10-year experience in the sport to give his best for the country.
“My aim is to be the best in the championship fight,” he said.
“I would like to call on the Government to assist and fund other sports in the country instead of focusing too much on rugby league.”
Wailo said kickboxing and other sports needed more support from the Government.
He said kickboxing promoted discipline and healthy living.
“I will be leaving the country next month and I’m raising funds at the moment,” Wailo said.
He said funding support was the key to create change among people, especially youths.
“Nowadays, most of the law and order issues are created by young people and support needs to be made available,” Wailo said.
He said his travel would also boost the morale of other fighters in the country.
Wailo said anyone interested to help could call or email him on 708 18 227 or http://[email protected].
WKF Papua New Guinea representative Bostany Paiale Elo confirmed the fight.
When asked about whether there were travel restrictions in place due to Covid-19, he said the fight had been arranged by overseas promoters and that there would not be a problem with travelling.
