TWO suspects have been arrested by Lae police following two murders involving brothers at the Bumbu settlement, according to police.
Lae Met Supt Chief Insp Chris Kunyanban described the murders as senseless and cold-blooded in which one brother killed the other.
He said one case involved two brothers from East Sepik, which happened last week, and the other involved two brothers from Northern, which happened late last month.
“This is senseless killing which is solely instigated by illegal consumption of home brew and marijuana,” he said.
“Investigations have been done and reports will be compiled to be presented before the courts.
“Police are doing their best to make aware the public on the impact of homebrew and alcohol but it cannot go any further and need the system to be tightened in such a way that it can bite.”
Chief Insp Kunyanban said many unnecessary killings stemmed from homebrew and marijuana consumption and added that the Government needed to serve severe penalties as a deterrent.
