Kimbe claim Cup’s NGI slots

THE Kimbe Soccer Association’s men’s and women’s team triumphed over other centres to represent the New Guinea Islands at the Besta FA Cup finals in Lae in September.
The Bougainville men’s team fought hard but went down to Kimbe 1-0 in the grand final on Sunday.
Despite the loss, Bougainville coach Freddie Piriri praised his young charges for a brave performance.
“The pressure was on our side but credit to the players for fighting till the end,” Piriri said.
Present at both grand finals, West New Britain Governor Sasindran Muthuvel was impressed with the performance of the four finalists.
In the women’s grand final, Kimbe secured a 1-0 extra-time victory over NBPOL Kumbango.
The Women’s top goal scorer and fair play award went to Kimbe Soccer Association’s Ramona Padio and Cristo Mato respectively, while Mosina Kenneth from AROB one received the men’s player of the tournament.
DenDen Daniel, from Kimbe one, received the men’s golden boot award, while the referee of the tournament went to Michael Saun.
Kimbe men now join Mamose winners Almami, runners-up Morobe Football Association, Southern winners Hoods, runners-up Kamali for the Besta FA Cup finals.
