KOKOFA-CATS maintained second spot on the Port Moresby AFL ladder following a 64-44 win over the Dockers in Saturday’s opening men’s clash at the Colts Oval.
Under the guidance of centre Glen Saniong and forward Obert Muri, Kokofa-Cats dominated possession for a 28-17 lead at halftime.
The Dockers, through Sebastian Bai, were able to control their game.
However, a surge by Kokofa-Cats in the third and fourth quarters saw them score six goals while the Dockers only managed four goals and three behinds.
Kokofa-Cats acting coach Joseph Ila, while commending his side on the win, said it was their efforts to execute the basics in the match that proved the difference after losing 31-42 to the West Eagles in the previous round.
“It was a good game and we were evenly matched in the first half but I think talking to the boys about the basics proved the difference,” he said.
“The pressure we wanted to win the midfield and forward line to turn over the ball gave us a lot opportunities to score.
“We wanted to build on our support play and accountability on the field so the boys really pushed hard when we lost the ball, they made it their business to even up and return the ball.
