Gulf Komara have set goals for their next seven matches prior to the finals, with the Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League Southern Conference round-two games set to kick of this weekend.
Komara are third on the ladder with three wins, as many losses and a draw bringing their tally to 10 points.
They are behind the second-placed Port Moresby United, who are on 16 points, and ladder leaders Hekari United.
Komara coach Percy Mataio said they were aiming to complete their matches on a high note, and securing second spot was their main objective.
The Petroleum Resources Kutubu-sponsored side started their season in ordinary fashion, losing their first matches to Central and Hekari respectively.
However, they improved with victories against Bougainville and the Southern Strikers.
Komara then drew with Port Moresby United and lost to the Eastern Stars before bouncing back with a win over Star Mountain to find themselves in third spot.
“After round one, we have analysed all our opponents and have designed specific systems and models to compete against these teams,” Mataio said.
“We are confident of our own ability to finish off strongly in the Southern Conference leading into playoffs.
“So our primary aim is to finish in the top two and advance into the finals.
“We are adamant that we have the players who can make things happen for us.
“We are hopeful that the execution of our game plan can be delivered precisely to give us the result we anticipate.
“We have a reactive style of play that focuses on defence as our priority.
“In moments when we have possession, we allow ourselves to be in positions where we want to be so that we are able to create our opportunities to finish off.
“It is a work in progress but given time, our boys are now starting to understand the coaching style and are beginning to execute correctly.
“In the second round, we are expecting tougher challenges from all our opponents.
“We will take each of them seriously, knowing what they’re capable of and what we can do as a team to react to our opposition.”
