LATE Lorna Quimon, who was brutally murdered and her body dumped at Gusap in Ramu, Madang was finally given a decent burial at Butibam cemetery in Lae on Sunday.
The family claimed that Quimon was a victim of abuse allegedly by her husband for more than five years before she was murdered on March 24.
Quimon is survived by her five-year-old daughter and a three-year-old son who are now under the care of their maternal grandmother (Quimon’s mother).
Quimon’s husband, who police allege is the main suspect in the murder, is in remand at Buimo Prison in Lae awaiting his court appearances.
According to police, a second suspect following the death of Quimon was also picked up by police and is also in custody.
According to a family member, Quimon went missing on March 23 and her relatives were able to identify her body after she went missing for two weeks and was found in a sugarcane field in Gusap.
Lae Metropolitan Commander Chief Supt Chris Kunyanban condemned Quimon’s brutal murder.
“The way she (Quimon) lost her life was in a cruel and gruesome manner,” he said.
Quimon’s family, friends and women in Lae and Morobe have condemned her killing and have called on the Government to legislate tougher penalties on perpetrators.
