Lagaip MP commends Tsaka’s re-election as chairman

LAGAIP MP Aimos Akem has commended re-elected Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) chairman Sandis Tsaka for promoting the development of rugby league in the country.
Tsaka was re-elected for a fourth consecutive term during the PNGRFL’s annual general meeting held in Lae over the weekend.
“Tsaka has been promoting the development and growth of rugby league in Papua New Guinea over the last nine years…in the country and throughout the Pacific region accordingly,” Akem said.
“Stability is an integral component that triggers growth and change.”
Akem is optimistic of rugby league’s growth which is loved and played by the majority of people throughout the country.
“Rugby is the only sport that unites this country and acts as a developmental tool in all aspects concerned,” he said of the state of the game.
“Rugby league gives youths the chance to showcase their raw talents in local, national and international rugby league competitions,”
Akem said stability and continuity of leadership brought progress and tangible results in areas of integral human development and general improvements in the socio-economic sectors.
He acknowledged the support of 32 league affiliates who voted in favour of Tsaka and commended the leadership of runner up Tony Sipa, who secured the support of 13 league affiliates.
Under Tsaka’s chairmanship, PNGRFL included PNG Hunters in the Queensland Intrust Super Cup winning the competition in 2017, introduced Women’s Rugby League development and are bidding for a PNG in the NRL.
They are focusing on resurrecting rural leagues in the country.
Tsaka is Enga’s administrator after the death of his predecessor late Dr. Samson Amean.
