OVER 50 teams will be competing in the annual Sports Tok Rugby 7s tournament that kicks off this weekend in Port Moresby on Friday.
The tournament will run all through the Easter weekend with finals to held on Monday.
The senior men’s team consists of 32 teams, with 12 teams respectively for the Under-20 men’s and women’s division.
Tournament manager Joe Kautu the tournament was expected to be bigger and better with the increase in number of teams this year.
“We will have eight pools in the senior men’s and each pool will have four teams,” Kautu said.
“The teams that finish first in their respective pools will compete in the top-8 for the cup.
“The teams that finish second in the respective pools will compete in the next group of eight teams that will play for bowls while the bottom 16 teams will play for plate and shield.
“The teams from the top-8 will have second chance so that means they can still compete for bowl and plate if they don’t make it to cup finals.
“We have three more new teams for this year which means this tournament is getting bigger and better every year. We are expecting a lot of raw talents to show what they got and it’s going to be a weekend of entertaining rugby 7s.”
