PORT Moresby landowner Otto Philip has called on the government to recognise his clan and issue them title of a land portion in the National Capital District.

Philip, the principal of the Kaevaga clan of Baruni village, said they were struggling to reclaim the title over the land portion 27 and 33 situated between Morata, Gerehu, University of PNG, Waigani campus and 8-Mile swamp because the government’s 99-year lease of that land had

expired.

“The land was a government’s reserve land but its 99-year lease has expired and that the title has to be transferred back to the customary landowners,” Phillip said.

Philip said they were now struggling to reclaim the title of their land (portion 27 and 33) because the state and developers had not met with them.

He said failure by the government to consult and negotiate with them would give him no option but to take court action against the

state.

He said his Kaevaga clan owned the land in Morata 1 and Morata 2, Waigani, Ensisi Valley and June Valley new block, known as Gomosa-Sipo areas in the National Capital District.
